A common name for members of the shark family Carcharhinidae, a large group that includes Bull Sharks, Blacktip Sharks, Blue Sharks, and many other well-known sharks.
Word Origin: Disputed. Likely from French requin (“shark”), possibly connected by folk etymology to Latin requiem (“rest”), the Catholic mass for the dead.
