Tiger Sharks grow slowly and may not reach sexual maturity for 8 to 10 years or longer. Many populations appear to follow a triennial reproductive cycle, meaning females may only give birth once every three years.

Although females produce relatively large litters, their slow growth and infrequent reproduction mean populations recover gradually following declines. Some individuals have been documented living 27 to 37 years.
